Indigenous Self-Identification Toolkit

The IPHCC Indigenous Self-Identification Toolkit supports organizations to respectfully collect and manage First Nations, Inuit, and Métis self-identification data. The toolkit promotes cultural safety and Indigenous data sovereignty, providing practical tools, training, and guidance for effective implementation.

What’s included in the toolkit:

  • Online learning modules for frontline staff and leadership 
  • Client resources like posters, FAQs, and a voluntary self-ID tool  
  • Implementation guidance and a data collector’s guide 
  • Templates for internal and external communications 
  • A Data Sharing Agreement developed by Indigenous legal experts 
  • The SGAR Model for secure, sovereignty-based data handling
