NEW Indigenous Cultural Safety in Mental Health: A Course for Meaningful Change

Mental health care that is culturally safer fosters trust, respect, and meaningful support for Indigenous individuals and communities. Healthcare professionals play a vital role in ensuring Indigenous people feel heard, valued, and supported in their mental health journeys.

To support this, the Indigenous Primary Health Care Council (IPHCC) has developed the Indigenous Cultural Safety in Mental Health course – now available as a self-paced online learning opportunity!

What This Course Offers

This course provides healthcare professionals and those working with Indigenous communities with the tools and knowledge to deliver culturally responsive mental health care. Key topics include:

✔ Indigenous Worldviews on Mental Health – Understanding wholistic wellness, community support, and traditional healing practices

✔ Historical and Contemporary Realities – Exploring the impact of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and systemic challenges on Indigenous Mental Health

✔ Culturally Safer Strategies for Healthcare Providers – Practical tools to build trust, foster safety, and provide trauma-informed care

Why This Matters

As healthcare providers and support workers gain an understanding of Indigenous perspectives and experiences, they can then create inclusive, respectful, and safer environments that support healing and well-being.
