A New Collaboration to Establish Support: The IPHCC and The Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle (IDHC) Form an Alliance

The IPHCC is proud to share that we formalized a partnership through a Relationship Agreement with The Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle (IDHC). The IPHCC and the IDHC have come together to form an alliance that places emphasis on diabetes care while also prioritizing a nurturing and resilient partnership. The focus of this partnership is to ensure the ongoing progress and advancement of collaborativeefforts to support First Nation, Métis, and Inuit health.

This partnership takes a step forward to address the blockages Indigenous Peoples face when dealing with diabetes. The goal of both organizations is to work hand in hand to provide the best outcomes to address the ways in which Indigenous Peoples can access safer care when dealing with Diabetes.

IPHCC and IDHC have come together in spirit of Indigenous health resurgence, reconciliation, and empowerment. Both organizations recognize the importance of culture-as-healing and the holistic approachto healthcare, encompassing not only the physical aspect but also the mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of individuals.

Both organizations made a 1`commitment to transform Indigenous health pathways and to place Indigenous health in Indigenous hands as a priority. This relationship is rooted in culturally safe, mutually beneficial practices and will explore priority areas to act as a collective voice for knowledge translation and be a catalyst to create an environment for change.

Committed to Transformative Change for Indigenous Health Pathways

The IDHC is an organization that focuses on diabetes education, prevention and management in Indigenous Communities in Ontario for both Indigenous Populations who live on and off reserve — serving First Nation, Métis and Inuit Communities.

IDHC has more than 100 partners, and the team focuses on developing and distributing culturally appropriate education, promotion and prevention resources that are required based on community needs. The goal is to provide access to treatment and care whilst identifying local and regional services that are related to diabetes.

Looking ahead at a future for Indigenous Health and Diabetes Wellness

The IPHCC and the IDHC recognize the challenges Indigenous Peoples face in managing diabetes and therefore they are deeply committed to placing culture at the heart throughout this partnership. Both organizations will work together to improve Indigenous health outcomes and disparities, remove barriers for clients on their health journeys, seek solutions to significant systematic issues and evaluate continually for the purpose of transformation.

Looking ahead, both organizations demonstrate their commitment to fostering a transformative relationship that will positively impact Indigenous health outcomes and pave the way for lasting change.
